Luke’s Sewing Centers will be participating in the SewPowerful effort to keep young Zambian women in school. It starts with our Luke’s ladies gathering together to make purses that are sent to the SewPowerful organization.
The purses are shipped to Zambia where seamstresses create the reusable personal hygiene products needed by the young women. The purse becomes a symbol of independence and commitment to remain in school, pass their 7th-grade exam, and proceed to high school.
The Tri-County Luke’s location will hold our initial purse sewing days on Wednesday, January 31st, and Saturday, February 3rd. Luke’s is supplying the upholstery fabric for the sturdy outside of the purses. We are asking our ladies to “dig” in their fabric stashes and bring bright pretty cotton fabrics to serve as cheerful linings and pockets. Luke’s will also be providing the webbing for the handles and denim needles for reliable sewing on the projects.
Please call 513-671-5100 as soon as possible to reserve your spot at this fun event. Lunch will be served and fun will be had!
