Summer Kamp 2019
June 25th & 26th, 2019

When it’s hot and humid out, we like to go inside and sew together! This week we welcomed Darrelle to our Luke’s family to teach us new techniques with our embroidery and sewing machines. During this event we used all kinds of materials for our projects, from vinyl to card stock. It certainly seems like there isn’t a limit to what we can do and create with a little imagination and the right embroidery machine.
On the first day, we worked with vinyl, lycra, and tear-away stabilizer to create a stuffed Gecko with the Husqvarna Viking Designer Epic embroidery Machine. Using applique techniques and satin stitches we were able to create this fun little creature and see the abilities built into the Epic. This machine is a powerful tool that made sewing even more enjoyable for our attendees.
Darrelle also brought along a special button foot for everyone to use that blew us away. Attaching a button to any project without having to hand stitch them on is possible with Button Foot with Placement tool. Everyone was able to place and sew buttons on their finished cell phone cases in just a matter of moments, even decorative buttons.
On the second day of class, our group worked with cotton materials, card stock, and sequins to make a travel bag and learn to use an embroidery machine to personalize cards for family and friends. With the tips Darrelle shared and the beautiful finished projects she brought along, we were all inspired. Getting to know the Designer Epic better and it’s capabilities made us all want to go home and create something beautiful at the end of the day.
