Luke’s Sewing Center is sponsoring this event all afternoon from 11-4pm and including lunch. We have 4 dates planned to complete these projects and each one is FREE. Our dates are Sat. Feb. 1st, Wed. Feb 12th, Wed. Feb 26th and Sat. March 7th. We ask that you call to reserve your spot since there is limited space and to make sure we have lunch for everyone.
Project We have opted to make the pouches and pouch liners that are most critically needed as determined by the Australian Animal Rescue Collective Craft Guild (ARCCG)We are making the Joey Pouches in a variety of sizes.
The pattern and technique is the same, only the size varies.
We need 10 sewers per date. They should be comfortable with their machine and with general sewing techniques. Sewers need to bring their machines and general sewing notions like scissors, pins, etc.
We need 2 people to cut fabric. We need 2 people to press project components.
Fabrics Liners The linings for the pouches (which are removable for frequent washing) need to be made from flannel or flannelette. We are hoping for donations of fabric. The fabric must be pre-washed and dried to allow for shrinkage.
No scented dryer sheets please. Pouch outside units are made from cotton, cotton / poly, flannel, polyester, cotton knit. The fabrics may be up-cycled for the outer pouches. IE: re-purposed sheets, pillowcases, tablecloths etc. Any up-cycled fabric must be freshly laundered and dried — no scented dryer sheets. Please no up-cycled clothing, and no flannel backed vinyl table cloths, flat goods only.
Luke’s will be supplying fabric to supplement our donated fabrics. Thread will be supplied for the project. Extra Fun Fun will be supplied by the “educator in charge”, so that means mandatory stretching every 2 hours, rousing renditions of Waltzing Matilda, Australian trivia, and Name that Marsupial!
