Class Recap: Block of the Month

Tri County’s Final Block of the Month!

On Saturday, September 16, Tri County’s Block of the Month finalized their quilts! We spent 13 months with our educator Debbie C learning all about various presser feet and specialty techniques. Many of these techniques can be carried over and used to add a bit of extra fun to everyday sewing and quilting techniques.

We can’t wait to start this all over again in January! Stay tuned for more details.

Block of the Month: Elsmere

Elsmere’s Block of the Month is wrapping up – has it been 12 months already? Almost! Next month (October) will be Elsmere’s final block of the month!
It’s been an exciting project – every month we’ve learned a new sewing accessory, presser foot, and specialty technique. We’ve played with our decorative stitches, and gotten creative combining new techniques with traditional quilting – and everyone’s quilts are coming along great! This month – we have a great boxed salad and sandwich from a local deli for lunch!
We’re so excited to see what everyone’s created – and how everyone’s quilts are coming together.

Home of the Brave (Tri County)

Tri County’s “Home of the Brave” class was such a smashing success (and so popular) in June that we just had to do it again for Labor Day! We had a great group of VIP customers join us on Saturday, the 26th. We took a break from a busy day of sewing for a great lunch of pizza and salad – yum!

Flip ‘N Fold Pillow: Tri County

We had such a great group at Tri County for Saturday’s Flip ‘N Fold Pillow Class! Using a fantastic Anita Goodesign design collection, we learned a great in-the-hoop quilting technique that allowed us to create large monograms that appear paper pieced. But it was as simple as folding our fabric over and stitching it down. Then, we turned our quilted monograms into one-of-a-kind pillows! It’s great to see how everyone’s pillow turned out so unique!

We took a lunch-break midday for grilled chicken salad, pizza and lots of sweet treats like cookies and candy. There were some great deals on new items – like the large stabilizers – too!

Sit ‘N Sew: Tri County

This Saturday Luke’s Tri County hosted a fantastic Sit ‘N Sew! Our educator, Laquitta was happy to help our VIP’s with their various projects. We took a break from our busy day for a quick lunch around 1pm, and finished up around 4. Laquitta is a very talented quilter and seamstress – and has a great sense of humor. It’s always great to work with her.
We were also glad to have Ann back! We’ve missed her recently and were excited to see her again – she always described Luke’s as her “Happy Place.” Welcome back!

Sit and Sews are one of our most popular reoccurring events at Luke’s. They’re a great way to get out of the house, meet other Luke’s VIP’s, and get some sewing done! Best yet- they’re FREE. Luke’s educators are always on hand to help you master your machine, offer design advice, and show you how to master new, tricky techniques.

Join us select Saturdays at Luke’s Tri County and Green Township for a day of fun, learning, and new friends!

EZ Breezy Table Runner (Green Township)

Saturday, July 29 Luke’s Green Township hosted their EZ Breezy Table Runner class! Our educator Kathy walked 8 VIP Customers through this “quilt as you go” technique – mastering curved seams and crafting a unique table runner all at once! Everyone made great progress towards finishing by the end of the day and Shannon gave a quick demonstration of the Mitered Corners tool for self-binding  – ensuring everyone finished up their binding perfectly.

Customer Appreciation Month!

Customer Appreciation Month was an exiting month full of surprise discounts, exciting events, and lots of learning! Four of Luke’s locations around Cincinnati – Elsmere, Tri County, Green Township, and Lawrenceburg – hosted Open Houses throughout the month of July. Guests were treated to special refreshments while our educators gave informative demonstrations on often requested techniques – and were able to stock up on essential sewing items with an extra 30% off club items! Visitors were even given a free gift when they stopped in on these days.
Luke’s Customer Appreciation presentations covered basic sewing and embroidery techniques and questions frequently answered by our educators. Throughout the month, we about new feet, and got all kinds of tips and tricks from Luke’s own expert educators:
  • Laquitta taught us some popular quilt blocks and made them so easy to learn! She made a disappearing 9 patch, flying geese -and more!
  • Shannon showed us a trick to making quilt triangles in minutes!
  • Veronica taught us how to make a quick and simple bag on the Serger!
  • Regina taught us to use the rolled hem and ruffled feet for professional finishes to pillows, aprons and drapes!
  • Veronica showed us how simple and quick mitered binding can be with the right tool!
  • Shannon showed us how simple adding a waist band can be with the stitch in the ditch foot!
  • JoAnne enlightened us on design positioning, hooping, stabilizers and scissor options in Embroidery 101!
In fact, we had SO MUCH fun at our Open Houses that Luke’s Tri County and Luke’s Green Township will be continuing them! Stay tuned for more details – but make sure to mark your calendar and stop in on the dates below. You don’t want to miss out!

Luke’s Tri County Class Recap

Make it Take It: Infinity Scarf

We had a wonderful class with Joanne!  11 ladies joined us at our Luke’s Tri County location for a Make it Take it: Infinity Scarf! We provided the sergers, chiffon fabric, and lunch! The class was only $19.95 and a great way to learn more about serging before committing to buying a machine.
We learned how to create a rolled hem on the Elna and Viking Sergers – a great way to finish off delicate chiffons, organzas and silks! It’s a must-learn technique if you are ever in need of hemming a prom dress.
Everyone left with a scarf and new friends! We will be doing this again – so stay tuned!
