VIP Spotlight: Vivien B

VIP of the Month
Vivien B.
Vivien is a newer face at Luke’s VIP events- but certainly not new to sewing! Her grandma taught her how to sew her first cheerleading uniform, and she was hooked after that. “I sewed just about everything I wore in highschool and college,” she reminisced. “I also made my daughter so many cute little outfits – mostly Halloween costumes – but as she got older, life happened and I didn’t sew much.” In November, she came to Luke’s to tune up a portable Janome machine so she could dive into quilting. “Lisa showed me the Elna 860 and I was in love.”
“Through Luke’s, I really fell in love with making quilts – and discovered I love making purses!”  Vivian explained that out of the dozens of quilts and purses she’s made, she’s given away nearly all of them to friends, family and charities. “My daughter has so many purses from me- and she even tried to talk me into setting up an Etsy shop, but I just love sewing for my friends and loved ones! And I’m excited to incorporate embroidery into everything- it makes everything that much more personal!” Her most recent purchase, the Elna 4 Needle, is going to let her do just that with ease and convenience. “It just seems so much easier – not having to keep stopping to change threads all the time.” The multineedle machines are fantastic for multitasking. Vivien will be able to focus on sewing and sergering while her 4 needle adds monograms and personalized embroidery designs to her projects. She won’t have to stop every time there’s a color change, and with the free-arm and hat hoop, combined with Elna’s proven durability – she’ll be able to embroider on a huge variety of materials

Since buying her first machine through Luke’s, Vivien has become a regular face at Luke’s VIP Club meetings and classes. When she bought her first machine at Luke’s, she gained access to all of our events, classes and support – and made real connections with many of our other VIP’s who have done the same. “What I love about Luke’s is how everyone is always willing to help, I can call up and my question will always be answered,” she elaborated, citing that she loves going to Club meetings. “I just love the energy at Club meetings – Margaret is so great to us and makes sure we laugh and have a great time.” Not only that, but she’s made new friends since becoming a Luke’s VIP. “The same people that come to club come to the Open Houses and other events – I’m new to the area, so I feel like I’ve really joined the community through Luke’s. I’ve made new friends and really fallen in love with sewing and quilting and I’m excited about getting into embroidery.”

Steve G from Anita Goodesign was our excited and gracious host who shared all the “secret” tips and tricks he knows -and even divulged some up-coming collections that haven’t been released to the public yet!

It Might’ve Been a Party…

But we still learned a lot!

Even though we took plenty of breaks for door prizes and shopping – this event was FULL of hands on sewing using the Elna multi-needle embroidering machine. We created free standing lace charms, free motion blocks, confetti applique – and even a zipper bag in the hoop! Steve also gave us lots of tips on other techniques – such as assembling quilt blocks and tile scenes (“Just follow the guide lines – and remember to baste first!”) and Anita Goodesign’s Fold ‘N Stitch quilting technique.

April Block of the Month: Tri County

Block of the Month: Tri County

Tri County’s Block of the Month is making great progress! Our teacher, Debbie, assembled the center row of her quilt already – and it’s getting us super excited to see everyone’s finished projects. Lunch was pizza and salad, with candies for dessert!
This week, we used the fringe foot in the center flower to add some great texture! It looks like seeds. This new technique and foot is a simple way to add some dimension and pop to your quilt block. we also explored our decorative stitches, and got creative with our applique and quilting!

Laquitta’s Quilting Class Pt 2

Laquitta’s Quilting Class Pt 2

What a great group we have for Laquitta’s quilting class! Luke’s Tri County location was full of laughter and good spirits as we finished up our quilt tops on Wednesday. Everyone, from our beginners to seasoned experts, had a great time learning this unique pattern. In addition to applique and quilt assembly, laquitta also gave us some tips on piecing and sashing.
Remember! We’ll be having a special (FREE) Sit ‘N Sew for our class members to put the finishing touches on their quilt with Laquitta’s assistance on May 6.

We’re looking forward to our next quilting class with Laquitta in July! This class was super popular and successful – many asked for another one! At Luke’s, you ask and you shall receive! We’re still working on the details, so stay tuned for more information!

Janome MC15000 Owner’s Class – Tri County

Janome MC15000 Owner’s Class

What a great class! 14 Janome MC15000 owners joined us on Saturday and did a great job! The store was full of laughter and smiles as everyone learned together to master their machines. We took a quick break from all the sewing for a delicious lunch of grilled chicken salad, pasta, bread sticks and dessert.
Our educator, Lisa, went back to the basics with AcuFil. We learned to quilt in the hoop – without removing our hoops from the machine! It’s a great program included with the Janome MC15000 and we’re glad everyone’s had a chance to learn it! No need to worry about free-motion quilting. Just hoop your quilt – hit go – and watch it sew!
If you missed this one – Lisa will be back in June for another owner’s class!
