Customer Appreciation Month!

Customer Appreciation Month was an exiting month full of surprise discounts, exciting events, and lots of learning! Four of Luke’s locations around Cincinnati – Elsmere, Tri County, Green Township, and Lawrenceburg – hosted Open Houses throughout the month of July. Guests were treated to special refreshments while our educators gave informative demonstrations on often requested techniques – and were able to stock up on essential sewing items with an extra 30% off club items! Visitors were even given a free gift when they stopped in on these days.
Luke’s Customer Appreciation presentations covered basic sewing and embroidery techniques and questions frequently answered by our educators. Throughout the month, we about new feet, and got all kinds of tips and tricks from Luke’s own expert educators:
  • Laquitta taught us some popular quilt blocks and made them so easy to learn! She made a disappearing 9 patch, flying geese -and more!
  • Shannon showed us a trick to making quilt triangles in minutes!
  • Veronica taught us how to make a quick and simple bag on the Serger!
  • Regina taught us to use the rolled hem and ruffled feet for professional finishes to pillows, aprons and drapes!
  • Veronica showed us how simple and quick mitered binding can be with the right tool!
  • Shannon showed us how simple adding a waist band can be with the stitch in the ditch foot!
  • JoAnne enlightened us on design positioning, hooping, stabilizers and scissor options in Embroidery 101!
In fact, we had SO MUCH fun at our Open Houses that Luke’s Tri County and Luke’s Green Township will be continuing them! Stay tuned for more details – but make sure to mark your calendar and stop in on the dates below. You don’t want to miss out!

It’s Christmas in July at Luke’s! We took a break from the heat and looked forward to the holidays during our VIP Clubs on Tuesday and Wednesday. Veronica (Elsmere), JoAnne and Laquitta (Tri County) presented lovely Trunk Shows from famed embroidery and quilt designer Hope Yoder.
Luke’s Elsmere’s night started with a dinner of chicken, green beans, mashed potatoes and cake for dessert. Tri County had pizza, salad, and cookies. After shopping and dinner, our educators took the stage to present Hope Yoder’s work! Hope’s designs feature trendy embroidery and quilting for all our Viking, Elna, and Janome customers. Yoder’s deigns goes from trendy, to modern, to traditional and back again. There was something for everyone at this trunk show! Some designs were as inexpensive as $15!

Since we were celebrating Christmas in July – there were gifts! Everyone who wore red for the festivities received a free spool of thread in addition to numerous door prizes. The big winner of the night at Luke’s Elsmere was Anna M! She went home with a collection of Hope Yoder designs, a collection of Iris thread, and a pair of applique scissors  – worth over $550! Wow! May Block of the Month: Kentucky

May Block of the Month: Kentucky

Kentucky’s Block of the Month club is in the home stretch! This month, they created their 8th block in the stitcher’s garden quilt. We explored our machines decorative stitches – getting creative with how we applied our applique and even used the circular attachment to create perfect circles! Then, we crafted bias tubes to use as the flower stems.

Serger Class

Veronica’s Serger Class: Ruffled Scarf

We love learning new Serger techniques from Veronica! Many sewers are intimiated by this 4 thread machine, but at Luke’s we have plenty of experts to show you the ropes. This weekend, she walked us through this great “serger crochet” scarf. This is made with 12 wt thread – no fabric! We set our machines for 3 thread overlock stitch, and learned how to adjust the stitch length to create the ruffles. This fun technique can also be added to other projects to add unique flair and variety!
Mid-day, we took a break for a lunch of baked chicken, salad, and marcaroni salad. Many thanks to our educator Kathleen J for assisting Veronica and helping everyone master this new technique!

Block of the Month: Elsmere

Elsmere Block of the Month

Block of the Month in Elsmere is making fantastic progress! For April, they made a colorful flower block. This month, we learned how to add textureand dimensional fringe with the applique foot – and used a variety of applique stitches to add even more variety. We also learned a great corner technique – and used some new tools. A fabric glue pen helped us tack down the rick-rack, and used a bias-cut tube to make the stem. It was great fun!
